Angela's very special family
A few months ago, I donated a family shoot voucher to the 2023 "Running for Nan" event and Angela was the lucky recipient of that voucher.
Today I had the pleasure of photographing Angela and her beautiful family and, while every family is special, Angela's family is extra special! You see, Angela carries the HD gene and, while she wanted to have children, she knew the risks of passing the gene on to them. Angela lost her own mother to HD and she wanted to be sure that this faulty gene would not continue travelling through her family tree.
With increasing awareness of the disease, and the recent push to allow women carrying the gene to utilise IVF, Angela was able to be one of the first women with HD to be conceive this way. The result is the very gorgeous Serena.
We have HD in our family too - Nan in the "Running for Nan" event, was my aunt. My wonderful Aunty Dot was just one of our family we have lost to HD.
